Hukumonline International Webinar Series

It is timely and essential to explore the legislative framework in Indonesia that protects fishing vessels at the regulatory and normative level. As a matter of fact, issuance of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) No. 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation has drawn rejections from umpteen professional circles and stakeholders, including in the fisheries sector. Even though the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has socialised this Job Creation Law/Perppu Cipta Kerja to fishermen, several problems still need to be solved. The Job Creation Perppu is not meant to protect and empower the community, but to provide legal certainty to investors with their interests extracting natural resources, especially fisheries and marine resources.

Bearing this recent development, Hukumonline in collaboration with Anggraeni and Partners would like to  provide a forum for discussion, and questions and answers session regarding theoretical and practical understanding of the challenges and risks faced by small-scale fishermen in Indonesia. By doing so, there would be clear and accurate discussion based on empirical conditions in the field. Moreover, it is expected that the discussion would increase trust from the public in the government and legal system and it would provide an overview of the current legislative and regulatory framework on fishing vessel safety standards in Indonesia and globally. Therefore, Hukumonline in collaboration with Anggraeni and Partners intends to organise the following:
